中古藏語

中古藏語[1]（英语：Old Tibetan、Classical Tibetan[2]或Old Bodish），語言學上對藏語的一種歷史分類，為7世紀中至11世紀初的藏語，這段時期寫成的藏文文獻部份記錄下這個語言。它是近古藏語的前身，為現代藏語的起源。816年，赤德松贊統治期間，藏文這種書寫文字在西藏被發明出來，因此得以保留下藏語的古老發音。在藏文被發明出來之後，中古藏語的發音、單字、動詞變化與文法，參考了印度梵文的範例，被加以標準化，成為近古藏語的前身。

音韻學
從音韻學的角度，中古藏語有許多特徵，在成為近古藏語時消失了。例如，在母音-i- 與-e-之前的子音 m-，被改成 my-的發音。在近古藏語中，中古藏文的 sts- 被簡化成 s-。
