歷史
南斯拉夫參與1920–1988每一屆夏季奥林匹克运动会，也參加除了兩次以外的1924–1988每一屆冬季奥林匹克运动会。因為1991年和1992年南斯拉夫解體，奧運參賽改變。新的獨立國家克罗地亚和斯洛文尼亚發出運動員參加1992年冬季奥林匹克运动会，南斯拉夫運動員包含波斯尼亚和黑塞哥维那、馬其頓、塞爾維亞與蒙特內哥羅。[1]這是南斯拉夫社会主义联邦共和国最後一次參加的奧運會。

盡管如此，国际奥林匹克委员会還是讓塞爾維亞與蒙特內哥羅 (以及馬其頓) 參加巴塞罗那的1992年夏季奥林匹克运动会 。所施加的條件是運動員將以奧林匹克運動會獨立參賽者 (IOP)參賽，穿白色且沒有特色的衣服，頒獎典禮使用奥林匹克圣歌及奧運會旗。[3]運動員不能參加比賽的開幕式和閉幕式。
一組52名運動員參加個人活動並在射擊上獲得3面獎牌。 個別運動員的限制意味著男子水球隊，女子篮球隊，男子和女子手球隊盡管有資格也不能參加。[4]
對南斯拉夫聯盟的繼續制裁意味著沒有運動員能夠參加甚至以奧運會旗名義參加在 利勒哈默尔的1994年冬季奥林匹克运动会。[5]這個制裁在下一個奧林匹亚取消。
